A woman wanted in the murder of her 2-year-old daughter in North Carolina has been arrested in Connecticut, authorities said Tuesday.
Rajasaffiyya Drain, 28, was detained Monday in Wethersfield, police said in a Facebook post. She was wanted in connection with the death of her daughter, Jamie Drain, in Windsor, N.C., on Dec. 2, 2024.
Cops picked up Drain while responding to a domestic incident in Wethersfield, police said. During the investigation, they learned she had a warrant for her arrest from North Carolina.
Though Jamie Drain died on Dec. 2, 2024, her mother was not charged with murder until Monday morning, according to Richmond, Va., ABC affiliate WRIC.
After processing Drain on the domestic violence charges on that same morning, cops were about to release her when they learned she was wanted in North Carolina, the Connecticut Post reported.
On the date of her death, Jamie Drain was found unresponsive in the home in Windsor, which is about 70 miles south of Norfolk and 475 miles south of Wethersfield. Raja Drain told investigators that her daughter had fallen down the stairs on multiple occasions.
However, medical examiners said Jamie Drain had suffered injuries that appeared to be inflicted by an adult, according to the Connecticut CBS affiliate WFSB. Raja Drain was the only adult in the home when her daughter was found dead.
Drain was in Wethersfield because she has family in the city, police said.
