More than 2 dozen arrested in New Jersey drug ring

More than two dozen people have been arrested in connection with a drug ring that operated out of central Jersey, the Attorney General’s Office announced.

Among the 26 people detained was Rabiyah Sorey, the alleged leader of the Double ii – Queen Street Blood Gang. She’s accused of peddling drugs from the 200 block of North 9th Street in Newark and facing charges including first-degree racketeering, conspiracy, weapons offenses, assaults and other drug offenses, officials said.

The additional suspects allegedly worked one of three shifts spread out over the course of the day, the first of which involved picking up heroin, fentanyl and cocaine from Sorey’s Elizabeth home every morning and then doling them out to the sellers. Others worked as “distributors,” “supervisors” and “enforcers,” with tasks including disciplining fellow gang members and intimidating rivals, officials said.

“This particular drug enterprise is charged with routinely engaging in violence for the sake of intimidating others, maintaining gang discipline, and controlling their territory. We will continue to work with our law enforcement partners to protect our cities and towns from these criminal organizations.”

The group has also been involved in a series of violent confrontations, including a road rage incident on April 19, 2023. Sorey allegedly called two men down to the scene and asked them to shoot the others, one of whom was wounded. Then, on July 22, 2024, Sorey and other Double ii members were apparently involved in the shooting of man in the area of North 12th Street in Newark.

The victim was struck three times, but he survived the gunfire.

Sorey has also been linked to the shooting of a woman who allegedly owed her money for drugs on July 21, 2023.

A total of 187 charges have been filed against the people involved and six people remain at large.
