More than 40 protesters were arrested near the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday morning as President Trump prepared to address dignitaries from across the globe.
The protesters, many wearing yellow reflective vests, were taken into custody after they conducted sit-ins near Third Ave. and E. 46th St. and E. 42nd St. and Second Ave. in an attempt to block traffic toward the UN, officials said.
The protesters were demonstrating for various causes, but were unified in their anti-Trump stance as they screamed “No Trump! No KKK!” and held up signs reading “Trump does not speak for us.”
President Trump addressed the UN General Assembly Tuesday morning, touching on several global issues, including the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and the Ukraine.
The NYPD had been prepared for mass protests during Trump’s visit as well as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
On Monday afternoon, at the start of the UN General Assembly, police arrested a 38-year-old man that UN security found wandering around the second floor of the building without proper credentials, police sources said.
The man was charged with trespassing and was interviewed by both the NYPD Intelligence Division and the Secret Service, officials said.
