‘Mr. Electricity’ Steve Regal is dead at 73



Professional wrestler “Mr. Electricity” is dead at 73.

The National Wrestling Alliance announced the death of former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Steve Regal on Monday.

“Defeating Denny Brown for the title, this flashy and charismatic grappler reigned atop pro wrestling’s junior heavyweight in 1986, paving a path for generations to come,” the wrestling organization posted on social media.

Regal began his wrestling career in 1977 and retired in 1996, according to TMZ. That gossip outlet reported the sports entertainment star died in July. Wrestling sites note Regal’s 1985 tagteam win over the Road Warriors among his career highlights. He achieved that feat as part of the Fabulous Freebirds duo.

His career also reportedly included matchups with the Junkyard Dog, George “The Animal” Steele and the tagteam of Tito Santana and Pedro Morales.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native performed on television outlets including MSG Network, according to IMDB. Video of Regal’s matches posted to YouTube show that he traveled the country and wrestled in Japan during his career.

No cause of death has been reported.
