MTA to run extra trains on commuter railroads for St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The MTA will be running at least 11 extra trains on the commuter railroads Monday as riders head to Manhattan for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Some 2 million spectators are expected to head to Midtown to watch the annual celebration of Irish heritage.

Metro-North Railroad will run five additional trains on the East-of-Hudson lines, as well as one additional train on the Pascack Valley line and one additional train on the Port Jervis line on the Hudson’s west side.

The Long Island Rail Road will run two extra trains apiece on the Babylon Branch and the Ronkonkoma Branch.

Both commuter railroads will ban alcoholic beverages on trains and in stations for 24 hours, starting at 5 a.m. Monday.

The parade down Fifth Ave. is also expected to require temporary reroutes of several Manhattan bus lines.
