N train stuck in Manhattan-to-Queens tunnel, causing N/Q/R/W line delays

A southbound N train was stranded in the 60th St. tunnel between Manhattan and Queens for nearly an hour Friday morning after the train failed to draw power from the third rail, sources told the Daily News.

The train lost power outside of the Queensboro Plaza station around 8:45 a.m. while heading toward Manhattan, with sources saying the 1980s-era R68A train coasted to a stop after its motors turned off.

The subway was stranded underground for nearly an hour, until crews were able to back it into Queensboro Plaza to offload passengers. Residual delays on the N, Q, R and W lines — compounded by a morning signal failure at 34th St. in Manhattan — persisted into the afternoon.

Multiple sources told The News that there was no indication of power loss on the track in the 60th St. tunnel, indicating a likely problem with the train’s control circuitry.

Service through the tunnel resumed around 9:45 a.m.
