Nassau County detective busted in child sex sting operation

A Long Island police detective was arrested for attempting to sexually exploit a child, authorities said Sunday.

Robert Sacco, a 38-year-old Nassau County detective, exchanged numerous messages with an undercover agent who he believed was the father of a 10-year-old girl, the Justice Department said in a press release.

Sacco asked the detective to record himself sexually abusing his daughter on a video call, which Sacco planned to watch for his own sexual gratification, the feds said.

Sacco joined the call on Friday “with the intent to watch the undercover officer engage in sexually explicit conduct with the purported 10-year-old child, including oral sex,” the U.S. Attorney’s office for New York’s Northern District said in a press release.

“When the undercover officer told Sacco that the child would not come out of her room, Sacco asked if the undercover officer wanted to ‘postpone,’” according to the feds.

During prior interactions with the undercover officer, which began in October 2025, Sacco expressed his sexual interest in children and said he ejaculated on pictures of the officers’ purported daughter, the feds said.

Sacco, a Huntington resident, was arrested Saturday and made a brief court appearance in Brooklyn, but he will be transferred upstate for prosecution, authorities said.
