The Nets are expected to fully guarantee the contracts of Jalen Wilson and Tyrese Martin for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, according to reports.
Doing so would lock both players in ahead of the NBA’s official salary guarantee date on Jan. 10, eliminating the risk of either being waived on a non-guaranteed deal.
Around the league, teams typically treat 5 p.m. ET on Jan. 7 as the real pressure point. Players waived by then can clear the standard 48-hour waiver process before contracts become guaranteed, making it the informal cutoff for roster decisions involving non or partially guaranteed deals. Wilson and Martin were the two Nets most directly tied to that deadline.
Wilson, a second-round pick in 2023, is now in his third season with Brooklyn and has settled into a steady rotation role. He’s averaged 7.4 points per game across his Nets tenure. Martin, in his second season with the franchise, has averaged 8.3 points, providing shooting and energy on the wing. Wilson’s contract included a partial guarantee, while Martin entered the season on a fully non-guaranteed deal.
The timing also coincides with increased roster movement across the NBA, as teams became eligible to sign players to standard 10-day contracts earlier this week. Clubs that waive players around the guarantee deadline often pivot quickly to short-term deals to maintain flexibility or evaluate new options.
By choosing to keep Wilson and Martin beyond the cutoff, the Nets are prioritizing continuity over roster churn. With injuries, frequent lineup changes and an ongoing emphasis on development, Brooklyn appears comfortable committing to both players as the season pushes toward the February trade deadline.
