Nets land No. 8 overall pick in 2025 NBA Draft

The Nets, represented by head coach Jordi Fernandez at the 41st annual NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago, secured the No. 8 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft on Monday.

Brooklyn entered the night with the sixth-best odds, holding a 37.2% chance of picking in the Top 4 and a 9.0% chance of landing the No. 1 overall pick.

The Dallas Mavericks, who traded away former franchise cornerstone Luka Doncic last season, were the biggest winners of the Lottery, securing the top pick in June and the opportunity to draft Duke’s Cooper Flagg, the consensus No. 1 prospect who’s viewed as a potential generational talent. They had 1.8% odds at earning the top pick.

Flagg measured at 6-7 3/4 barefoot, 221-pounds with a 7-foot wingspan and an 8-10 1/2 standing reach at the NBA Scouting Combine. He averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists while shooting 48.1% from the field and 38.5% from 3-point range during his freshman season with the Blue Devils, leading the program to the Final Four and securing National Player of the Year honors, among other prestigious awards.

The complete 2025 NBA Draft order is as follows: Dallas No. 1, San Antonio No. 2, Philadelphia No. 3, Charlotte No. 4, Utah No. 5, Washington No. 6, New Orleans No. 7, Brooklyn No. 8, Toronto No. 9, Houston No. 10, Portland No. 11, Chicago No. 12, Atlanta No. 13, San Antonio No. 14.

This is the Nets’ first lottery appearance since 2010, ending a 14-year drought. Their last lottery pick, Georgia Tech’s Derrick Favors, was selected third overall and played in only 56 games for the team before being traded to the Utah Jazz in a deal for Deron Williams, falling short of expectations.

The Nets will also pick at No. 19 (via Bucks), No. 26 (via Knicks), No. 27 (via Rockets) and No. 36 (own), giving them five picks inside the Top 40 selections. They also hold 31 total picks through 2031, including 15 first-round picks and 16 second-round picks.
