Hello, Sidney. Neve Campbell’s back and more fired up than ever in the trailer for “Scream 7,” which is a real scream for diehards who love a good Easter egg.
The hotly anticipated preview dropped Thursday, just in time for Halloween weekend, and features the return of Final Girl Sidney Prescott and “cheesy tabloid journalist”-turned-bestselling author Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox).
Gale says she’s ready to “unmask this f–ker” as a new Ghostface taunts Sidney and her teen daughter Tatum — a nod to Rose McGowan’s character, whose garage door death in the first film remains one of the franchise’s grisliest.
This Ghostface slays at Stu Macher’s (Matthew Lillard) house from the first and fifth film’s final showdowns and says Sidney’s new town “reminds me of where we grew up,” begging the question: have we seen these masked murderers before? Were they ever friend or always foe?
Campbell, 52, dropped out of the sixth installment in 2022 as she “felt the offer … presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” She announced in early 2024 that she was back for the new film, directed by Kevin Williamson, who penned the first two and the 2010s “Scream” series on MTV.
After Craven’s 2015 death, the fifth and sixth films were directed by Radio Silence duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
