A father has been arrested a year after he allegedly murdered his 4-year-old son in a New Jersey hotel room.
Sean Tate is facing charges of first-degree murder and second-degree endangering the welfare of a child in connection with his boy’s death in 2024, the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office announced. Tate called police on February 19 of that year and told them he found his child unresponsive.
Tate at the time claimed his son fell off the toilet days earlier and hit his head on the air conditioning unit, leaving him with visible injuries. He added that he helped his son ice his head, but said the boy did not wake up the next morning, prompting his emergency call.
The child was rushed to the hospital and died hours later. Medics there said the child, whose name has not been released, suffered a series of injuries and was emaciated at the time of his death.
