A small school bus crashed and flipped on its side in New Jersey on Thursday morning, injuring four children and the driver.
One student was seriously injured in the wreck in Wall Township around 7:30 a.m., NJ.com reported. The other three children and the driver suffered minor injuries.
The crash occurred on Interstate 195 about 40 miles south of Central Park, near where the interstate turns into New Jersey Route 138, according to WABC. The bus was traveling eastbound on I-195 and collided with a GMC van.
The impact of the crash sent the bus onto its side, and the emergency roof exit was opened, according to helicopter video from WPIX. The GMC driver was not injured in the wreck.
Authorities did not immediately say what caused the crash. It was one of two school bus crashes in New Jersey on Thursday morning.
In Franklin Township, about 30 miles northwest, two school buses collided around 8 a.m., the local police department said in a Facebook post. One 9-year-old boy was hospitalized with injuries from that collision.
No other students suffered notable injuries, according to authorities. They were all taken to school using other buses.
The chaotic morning came less than three weeks after a full-size school bus crashed on the Garden State Parkway. That crash sent 14 children to the hospital, including one student who was pinned under the bus and in critical condition. The driver was also injured.
