New Jersey woman found dead inside Atlantic City home

An investigation is underway in New Jersey after a a 34-year-old woman was found dead in an Atlantic City home over the weekend, officials announced

Authorities were called to the residence along Sheridan Avenue on Saturday just after 10 a.m., according to a statement released by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday. When they arrived at the home, officers found an “unresponsive female,” who has since been identified as Christina Burdette. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Her family members told PHL 17 that Burdette’s body was covered in bruises and that her head had been wrapped in gauze — almost as though she’d been in a fight.

Burdette’s death is being investigated as a homicide but the cause is still not clear.

“She was beautiful,” her, mother, Stephanie Abeulkabiir, told WPIV. “My daughter was a lovely girl. Everybody loved her.”

Burdette’s sister, Nicole, meanwhile remembered her as a quiet, gentle soul.

“She didn’t bother anybody. She was mainly about her children,” said said. “You would have thought, because she was so to herself and so angelic and her own little person, she would have died from old age.”

Burdette, a mother of two, leaves behind two children, ages 6 and 3. Nicole noted that the children’s father died a few years ago.

The prosecutor’s office Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department are conducting an investigation into her death. They have asked that anyone with information in the case, specifically about Burdette’s whereabouts in the days and weeks leading up to the homicide, to reach out immediately.
