New NYC mayoral poll shows Mamdani beating Cuomo by 10 points in head-to-head matchup

Zohran Mamdani is holding his ground as the frontrunner in the race for NYC mayor with another poll released Tuesday showing the Democratic nominee with a significant lead and beating former Gov. Andrew Cuomo in a head-to-head contest.

A new Marist poll showed Mamdani leading Andrew Cuomo by 21 points, with 45% of polltakers saying they support Mamdani and 24% choosing Cuomo. Republican Curtis Sliwa received 17% and 9% backed Mayor Adams.

Those opposed to Mamdani, including President Trump, has urged for consolidation in the race to give one candidate the best shot at defeating the nominee.

Adams has pondered ending his campaign to take a job with President Trump or in the private sector, the Daily News has previously reported — although the mayor on Monday said he’d stay in the race ’til the end.

“I want you to look at my records and compare it to the records of those who are running,” Adams said Monday. “I lived up to what I promised that I was going to work hard for you. No matter what my personal strife may have been, I got up every day I did the job, and I served this city well.”

In a hypothetical head-to-head race between Mamdani and Cuomo, the democratic socialist would win by ten points, 49% to 39%, with Cuomo earning majority support among Republicans and 50% support among unaffiliated, the poll found.

The poll also found that, among Democrats, Mamdani received majority support at 58%, while Cuomo got 23% from those in the party.

Cuomo has sought to appeal to moderate and conservative voters, saying repeatedly that he’s hoping a different electorate than in the primary election will turn out to vote.

If Adams were to drop out of the race, and Sliwa were to stay in, Mamdani would receive 46% of likely voters’ support to Cuomo’s 30% and Sliwa’s 18%.

The survey of 1,470 New Yorkers was conducted over three days last week, and it has a margin of error of 3.2 points.

Two polls released last week also showed Mamdani with a big lead against the rest of the field: A Quinnipiac poll showed his 22 points above Cuomo, and an Emerson poll found he led by 15%.
