Authorities in Louisiana have arrested the fifth of 10 men who escaped from a New Orleans jail late last week.
Corey Boyd, 19, was taken into custody in the Iberville neighborhood of New Orleans and will soon be transported to a secure state facility, Louisiana State Police announced Tuesday evening.
Boyd and nine other men escaped from the Orleans Parish Correctional Facility in the early hours of Friday— a bold prison break that captured national attention and sparked turmoil among state officials.
Four men had been captured by Monday — Kendell Myles, Robert Moody, Dkenan Dennis and Gary Price — as part of an around-the-clock manhunt that has mobilized more than 200 officers from local, state, and federal agencies.
Boyd, the fifth person to be apprehended, had been serving time for second-degree murder, aggravated battery and other offenses when he escaped.
Sgt. Kate Stegall, a spokesperson for Louisiana State Police, said he will now be booked for simple escape, but added that he may still face additional charges.
Earlier on Tuesday, a jail maintenance worker was arrested and charged with 10 counts of principal to simple escape and one count of malfeasance in office.
Authorities say Sterling Williams admitted to turning the water off in a cell so the 10 men could escape through a hole behind a toilet.
According to the arrest affidavit, the 33-year-old “willfully and maliciously assisted with the escape.” Williams told investigators that one of the men threatened to “shank” him if he didn’t comply.
His attorney, Michael Kennedy, said his client had “every intention of entering a plea of not guilty.”

Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson, who oversees the facility, announced Tuesday that she is suspending her reelection campaign.
During a heated city council meeting earlier in the day, Hutson said she took full accountability for the breach.
“The escape of 10 individuals from the Orleans justice center is unacceptable,” she told council members. “As your sheriff, I take full accountability.”
As of Wednesday, the five men still at large are Antonine Massey, Lenton Vanburen, Jermaine Donald, Leo Tate and Derrick Groves.
