A Newark man carjacked a Porsche with a 15-month-old baby still inside, authorities said Wednesday.
Dwan Littlejohn, 30, was charged with first-degree kidnapping and second-degree vehicle theft for the Tuesday night incident in East Orange, NJ.com reported. He was also charged with second-degree child endangerment and two counts of resisting arrest.
Cops said Littlejohn carjacked the Porsche around 10 p.m. on a street just 10 miles west of Central Park, according to News 12 New Jersey. Investigators believe he was unaware there was a 15-month-old child in the backseat of the vehicle.
Officers pursued Littlejohn in the Porsche on a short chase, which ended with his arrest in Newark, the Daily Voice reported. The baby was not harmed in the incident.
Small children inside expensive vehicles have been the downfall of carjackers nationwide. Two weeks ago in Salt Lake City, a 23-year-old man hopped into a running car and attempted to take it, unaware there was an 8-month-old child in the backseat.
Carlos Daniel Castellanos, 23, was charged Monday for the Aug. 7 robbery, which ended in a crash but no injuries to the child.
Last month, a man in Chicago stole a vehicle with a 7-month-old child inside, then abandoned the vehicle in the sweltering heat with the tot inside. Jeremy Ochoa, 38, was arrested in that case, while bystanders found and saved the child.
