Gunfire erupted at a recording studio in Newark on Wednesday night, leaving two people dead and another two injured, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The deadly violence occurred at Platinum Sound, a studio located on the bottom floor of an apartment building tucked between a hair salon and a supermarket on Clinton Avenue, ABC7 reported. Witnesses on the scene told the station that the sound of music pumping out of the spot was briefly drowned out by gunfire around 8 p.m.
One man was shot and died at the scene, and another man who was also shot was pronounced dead at the hospital, authorities said. Another two people were injured in the gunfire and transported to an area hospital. They were listed in stable condition, but the exact nature of their injuries was not provided. None of the victims has been identified..
In the hours after the shooting, law enforcement officers descended on the area surrounding the recording studio, where they remained well into the night. Per a preliminary investigation, police suspect the violence may have been part of a targeted hit.
Authorities have not yet announced an arrests, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
