Nicole Kidman was seen donning her wedding band in Los Angeles mere days before news broke of her separation from husband Keith Urban, a split that seemed “inevitable” to those who know them.
The separation “really hasn’t been a secret” amongst those close to the four-time Grammy winner, who “felt like the split was kind of inevitable,” an insider told People Tuesday.
A day earlier, insiders confirmed to TMZ that the “Babygirl” star, 58, and 57-year-old Urban, both native Australians, have been living separately “since the beginning of summer.”
The Oscar winner was sporting the vintage Cartier band during her appearance at the Academy Museum’s Clé de Peau Beauté: The Key To Radiance Is You event on Sept. 25, E! News reports.
The couple wed on June 25, 2006 and Kidman celebrated their 19th anniversary this year with a black and white shot captioned, “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️ @KeithUrban.”
That was days after their last public joint appearance at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, and over a month since Urban last posted Kidman in early May.
While paying tribute to the “Big Little Lies” star at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala in April 2024, Urban revealed that his addictions ruptured their marriage “barely four months” in.
“My addictions … that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens,” he reportedly said at the time. “Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us … and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.” He added that Kidman “pushed through every negative voice … and chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”
Also in April 2024, Kidman told People that she was “so lucky that I have Keith, who’s just my love, my deep, deep love.”
It’s unclear what has since spurred the decision to separate, but the People source said that Kidman “didn’t want this. She has been fighting to save the marriage.”
“The entire Kidman family has come together to support one another,” they revealed.
Another insider shared last month that Kidman and the two daughters she shares with Urban “have been inseparable” the past few months. Sunday, 17, and 16-year-old Margaret are said to be residing currently with their mother.
In February, the family was away when their L.A.-area home was broken into. By July, Kidman had reportedly applied for a residency permit in Portugal, appearing for a required appointment in Lisbon. Urban’s name wasn’t listed on the application and his absence was explained by the U.S. leg of his “High and Alive” tour, which kicked off in May.
Kidman was previously married to Tom Cruise, with whom she adopted baby girl Bella in 1992 and newborn son Connor in 1995. The “Days of Thunder” and “Eyes Wide Shut” stars tied the knot on Christmas Eve 1990 and announced in early 2001 that they had parted ways.
