It was a family affair until this moment.
On Tuesday, Nicole Kidman filed for divorce from Keith Urban after 19 years of marriage, but news of their separation spread like wildfire on Monday, and now new details surrounding what went wrong have emerged.
“Their lives were moving in different directions, and once he quietly set up his own place, it felt like the writing was on the wall,” a source told People about the country singer, 57, moving out of their family home.
“It really hasn’t been a secret in their circles that Keith and Nicole have been living separately for a while now,” the insider continued. “People close to Keith felt like the split was kind of inevitable.”
They further alleged that “Nicole’s sister [Antonia] has been a rock, and the entire Kidman family has come together to support one another.”
The Post reached out to Kidman and Urban’s reps for comment.
The estranged couple’s inner circle allegedly believes Urban is involved with a new woman, TMZ reported on Tuesday.
The pair, who tied the knot in 2006, share daughters Sunday, 17, and Faith, 14.
“All the signs point to the fact Keith is with another woman. Let’s just say, Nicole doesn’t dispute that, but she’s still shocked over it,” multiple sources told the outlet.
One source close to Kidman added, “It’s all over Nashville.”
“Sometimes relationships just run their course,” a source told Page Six on Monday, adding that Kidman did not want to split and tried saving their relationship.
Sources also claim the pair has been living separately “since the beginning of summer.”
Kidman has allegedly been taking care of their two children, while “holding the family together through this difficult time since Keith has been gone,” with TMZ reporting that the exes have already hashed out a parenting plan.
Their daughters will allegedly spend 306 days with their mom and 59 days with their dad. Kidman and Urban also reportedly agreed that they will make all major decisions about the girls jointly.
As of now, neither star has publicly spoken out about their marital status.
The duo was last spotted out in public together on June 20 at a 2025 FIFA Club World Cup match in Nashville.
A few days later, Kidman marked their 19-year wedding anniversary with a sweet Instagram post.
The “Big Little Lies” alum shared a black-and-white shot of them cuddling, captioning the picture, “Happy Anniversary Baby ❤️.”
In July, following their secret split, Urban abruptly ended a radio interview over an intimate question about his wife.
The Grammy winner was a guest on Australia’s Mix 102.3’s “Hayley & Max in the Morning” and seemingly left the call when hosts Hayley Pearson and Max Burford asked him about watching Kidman’s on-screen love scenes.
“What does Keith Urban think when he sees his beautiful wife with beautiful younger men like Zac Efron having these beautiful loves scenes on TV and radio?” Burford inquired before he was met in silence.
“What just happened here?” Burford asked as a producer said, “He’s disconnected from Zoom.”
“I think his team hung up on us because they didn’t want us to ask that question,” the producer noted. “He’s gone, see you Keith.”
Pearson said she believed they “upset” Urban because he “doesn’t like the personal stuff.”
However, a source told People that Urban didn’t leave the phone call.
“Keith did not hang up, period,” the insider insisted. “He doesn’t host his Zoom interviews. This is a complete nothingburger.”
The source added that Urban is a “very easygoing” interview subject and didn’t have an issue with the hosts’ question.
Kidman starred alongside Efron, 37, in Netflix’s 2024 rom-com “A Family Affair.” Kidman plays a writer who began a romantic relationship with a young actor (Efron) whom her daughter (Joey King) works for.
When the project was released, the TV star explained that she felt comfortable filming sex scenes with the “High School Musical” alum.
“It’s really helpful when you’re doing this sort of work together that you’ve already got a history together, because it’s easy,” explained Kidman. “You’re not working to create a history. So I’m not like, ‘Can I touch you?’ I feel incredibly trusting of Zac.”
In April 2024, Urban honored Kidman at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala and recalled in his speech how his past addiction struggles almost tore their relationship apart.
“We got married in June 2006 and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens,” he admitted.
“And I went into the Betty Ford Center for three months. Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months,” recalled the star. “I had no idea what was going to happen to us. And if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”
“Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own and she chose love,” Urban added. “And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”
Kidman wiped away tears as she listened to her partner’s speech.
“That’s the thing about Nic — she loves life,” Urban concluded. “I’ve actually never met anyone who has such a passion for being alive. She knows the importance of expressing feelings, as well. I wasn’t raised like this at all, so our girls are very lucky to be learning from you, baby. I’m learning to.”
