Nintendo delays US pre-orders for Switch 2 amid Trump tariffs

Nintendo said Friday it will delay pre-orders for its long-anticipated release of the new Switch 2 console in the United States, citing uncertainty stemming from newly imposed tariffs on Japanese exports.

The next-generation console was officially unveiled on Wednesday, hours before President Trump unveiled his “Liberation Day” tariff policies.

Pre-orders were slated to begin Wednesday, the same day the new reciprocal tariffs will slap Japan with a 24% levy.

In an official statement, Nintendo said: “Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not start April 9 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions.”

Despite the setback, Nintendo has confirmed that the global launch date for the Switch 2 remains unchanged, with a release still scheduled for June 5.

The pause affects only the American market.

Nintendo clarified that pre-orders in other regions, including the UK, will proceed as scheduled.
