Brian DiBiasi, a former police officer charged alongside his wife with having sex in front of children, was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot at a state park in Hopewell, officials said.
DiBiasi died early Tuesday in the southern corner of Washington Crossing State Park, not far from the Delaware River, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to NJ Advance Media. An investigation into his death is ongoing.
Both DiBiasi and his wife, Elizabeth Dibiasi, were arrested on January 29, after state police descended on their home in Hamilton township. The early-morning raid was prompted by a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, after the agency received an alert from KiK about a user uploading suspected child porn.
DiBiasi, a Hamilton police officer who served on the force for 21 years, was charged with permitting a child to engage in pornography, sexual conduct with a child by a caretaker, knowingly possessing/viewing/controlling items of child sexual exploitation or abuse, as well as distribution and storing of child pornography. Elizabeth was meanwhile charged with sexual conduct with a child by a caretaker.
According to the Trentonian, the 42-year-old is an 18-year veteran of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, where she most recently served as sergeant.
Prosecutors said that DiBiasi distributed multiple media files, including nude images of his wife in the presence of children. In the chat logs, DiBiasi also mentioned that children had been present while he and his wife had sex.
In total, the cyber tip line reported 36 files uploaded from an account belonging to DiBiasi.
The couple was released on bail a month after their arrest.
