A New Jersey father whose daughters were killed as they tried to rescue him from a burning home on Thanksgiving night has also died.
According to a GoFundMe page made by a relative, Frantz Fleury died at a hospital on Sunday, just over a week after a blaze broke out on the second floor of a residence in the city of Orange on November 27. His daughters — 49-year-old Frantzia Fleury and 42-year-old Pojanee Fleury — initially escaped unharmed, but they both rushed back into the home when they realized their father, who suffered dementia and used a wheelchair, was still inside.
They became trapped by flames and died during the incident, authorities said. Six others made it out safely.
“Both women died as heroes, saving their disabled father from the flames,” the GoFundMe page reads. “The loss has left their mother in shock and heartbreak.”
Loved ones remembered Frantzia, a proud Marine and dedicated x-ray technician, for “her strength, compassion, and unwavering love for her family.” Pojannee, who went by PJ, “was the creative force behind Brown Eyes magazine, touching many lives with her talent and vision,” per the GoFundMe.
“Both sisters were deeply close to their parents and devoted to their children, each leaving behind a child who now faces life without their mother,” the post concluded.
The cause of the Thanksgiving Day fire remains unclear, and an investigation into the matter is ongoing.
