A New Jersey high school teacher allegedly sexually assaulted a student, authorities said Tuesday.
William Arnold, 53, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, official misconduct, endangering the welfare of a child and criminal sexual contact, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office said in a news release.
The prosecutor’s office and Pequannock police were notified earlier this month by a teacher that another teacher at Pequannock High School was accused of inappropriate behavior with one of their students.
An investigation found that Arnold, who worked as a music and theater teacher, sexually assaulted the victim, who was 15 and 16 years old at the time, on multiple occasions during the previous school year.
No other information about the victim was released, due to their age.
Arnold was arrested and charged Monday and is being detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility ahead of future court hearings. He has also been suspended by the Pequannock School District.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with additional information regarding the active investigation is asked to call the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit at 973-285-6200.
