NJ jail guard charged with sexual assault of female inmate

A New Jersey prison guard is accused of sexually assaulting a woman in a South Jersey detention facility, authorities announced Wednesday.

Sebastian Flores-Huamani, a 24-year-old Mays Landing resident, was charged with second-degree sexual assault and second-degree official misconduct, the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office said in a press release.

Investigators said Flores-Huamani entered the woman’s cell on the pretense of providing her with soap, then raped her in the cell, according to BreakingAC. Video shows him walking into her cell and then leaving 13 minutes later, police said.

The woman reported the alleged assault on Sept. 4, the same day Flores-Huamani entered her cell, prosecutors said. Cops obtained Flores-Huamani’s DNA on Sept. 24, and matched it with DNA found on the victim, BreakingAC reported.

Flores-Huamani was arrested on Tuesday at his Mays Landing home. He made his first court appearance on Wednesday and was ordered to remain behind bars until a detention hearing on Dec. 8. He has also resigned from his job.

Flores-Huamani was hired as an Atlantic County jail guard in October 2023, according to a profile he created on a professional networking site. Per the profile, he has also worked as a chaplain assistant with the Army since July 2020, shortly after he graduated from high school.

Last year, Flores-Huamani picked up a minor reprimand for skipping a head count but reporting it as completed. He was suspended from his job for 10 days.
