A Jersey City man has been charged with murder in the deadly beating of another man in the city last week, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
Scott Bradley, 35, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 56-year-old Joey Richburg, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office said.
Richburg was found suffering from serious injuries around 9 a.m. Friday on Neptune Ave. near Garfield Ave., according to authorities. He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center but pronounced dead about 40 minutes later.
Autopsy results showed Richburg died from blunt-force trauma to the head and is death was ruled a homicide, prosecutors said Tuesday. They did not offer additional details on the extent of his injuries.
Bradley was arrested on Monday about 1 mile up the street at Randolph and Claremont avenues, less than 5 miles southwest of Battery Park. Investigators did not publicly reveal what evidence led them to identify Bradley as the killer.
Richburg’s murder was the ninth homicide in Jersey City in 2025, nearly double the five killings recorded in the city throughout all of 2024, according to the Jersey City Times.
The city’s deadliest incident this year occurred back in late January, when Luisa Urbano and her two children, 9-year-old Juan Martin Urbano and 5-year-old Diana Ramirez, were stabbed to death in their apartment. Urbano’s ex-boyfriend, Napoleon Romero-Anduray, was charged with their murders.
