A South Jersey man wanted in connection with the murder of his grandfather was captured Wednesday on Villanova University’s campus outside Philadelphia.
Shawn Moir, 26, was nabbed while sitting in a stolen vehicle in a parking lot on the campus, the U.S. Marshals said in a press release.
Moir was wanted for the killing of his grandfather, 59-year-old Albert Moir, in Vineland, N.J., on Tuesday night, according to authorities. Albert Moir was found stabbed to death with a kitchen knife in the South Jersey home, and cops quickly launched a manhunt for Shawn Moir.
The younger Moir stole his grandfather’s Chevrolet Tahoe and drove it 50 miles north to Villanova, investigators said. Cops spotted the stolen Tahoe in the Villanova parking garage around 1 p.m. Wednesday and arrested Moir without incident.
“We believe he was probably in there for over 10 hours,” U.S. Marshal Robert Clark told local NBC affiliate WCAU. “So after he was arrested, I asked him, I said, ‘Mr. Moir, how did you come to this parking garage in Villanova?’ He said, ‘I just drove around. I got gas. I found a parking garage, and I settled down here.’”
It’s been a busy few weeks on Villanova’s campus. On Aug. 21, an active shooter was reported at the school, but the shooting call was later found to be a hoax.
“Villanova University has seen significant law enforcement activity over the past couple weeks,” Clark said in a press release. “We are very pleased to have effected a safe arrest in a manner that avoided drawing student attention.”
