NJ mom charged with killing daughter sent to mental health clinic

A New Jersey mother charged with killing her 3-year-old daughter will be sent to a mental health facility, a judge ordered Monday.

Jeanine Glass, 43, stands accused of killing her toddler child on July 6 in her Florham Park home. Glass had been held in Morris County jail following her arrest last week.

At Monday’s detention hearing, Judge Claudia Jones ruled Glass should be sent to a mental health clinic in Belle Mead, the Morristown Daily Record reported. The ruling followed a joint request from prosecution and defense attorneys.

Glass will be confined to the facility until “discharge becomes medically and psychiatrically appropriate” at which point she will be sent back to county jail or another lockup, prosecutor Christopher Schellhorn told the Daily Record.

Glass’ daughter was found face down in a bathtub in several inches of water at the family’s home, authorities said. When first responders reached the scene, Glass was semiconscious.

Medical crews rushed the little girl to a hospital, but she was pronounced dead. Glass was reported as “suffering from a potential drug overdose” at the scene, and medical personnel said they performed “medical interventions” on her as well, though those have not been specified.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 2.
