Noah Wyle is living a “dream” after his first Primetime Emmy win for lead actor in a drama series for his work on HBO Max’ “The Pitt,” after losing five times in a row for his first medical drama, “E.R.”
In his acceptance speech, the actor reacted to the monumental career milestone saying,“What a dream this has been, my goodness. First of all, to my fellow nominees, just having my name included in your company is the honor of a lifetime,” Wyle said.
“Thank you to everybody at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Television for allowing the conditions to exist for lightning to strike in my life twice. John Wells, thank you for being that lightning.”
The actor also took a moment to acknowledge medical workers adding, “And most of all, if anybody is going on shift tonight or coming off shift tonight, thank you for being in that job. This is for you.”
Wyle admitted that he “gave up hope” for reaching Emmy status again, 26 years after his last nod for medical drama ER.
“I’m a little different when it hits. It’s hitting an older man, that’s for sure,” Wyle told People. “And one who’s been around now for 30 years and done a lot of different things and has sort of … I’m overwhelmed by this.”
“I gave up hope that this was going to be something that my career was going to be part of again, that this focus would beyond my work. It’s really amazing.”
The 54-year-old was previously nominated for Supporting Actor in a Drama Series five consecutive times between 1995 and 1999.
“The Pitt” earned 13 total Emmy nominations for its debut season, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series and nods for directing, writing, sound editing and casting.
During last week’s Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, the show also took home a statue for Best Drama Guest actor for Shawn Hatosy’s portrayal of Dr. Jack Abbot. In addition, casting directors Cathy Sandrich Gelfond and Erica Berger also won awards for the HBO Max series.
Wyle also serves as an executive producer and writer on the Emmy winning series.
