nominees, time, how to watch

And the Golden Globe goes to…

Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood will gather at the 82nd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, Jan. 5, to celebrate the best in film and television over the last year.

Zendaya, Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez, Glen Powell, Sebastian Stan, Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Adam Brody, Kristen Bell, Colin Farrell and Sofia Vergara are among the star-studded nominees.

The event is organized annually by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association and was previously marred with controversies.

The show was brought back in 2023 after NBC canceled the 2022 telecast when the HFPA had failed to achieve “meaningful reform” to its questionable practices, including a lack of diverse voting body, according to the network.

The HFPA has since added over 100 new voters to its roster, which now represents 62 different countries.

Who is hosting?

Nikki Glaser is hosting the Golden Globes this year for the first time. She is the first woman to host the award show on her own.

The 40-year-old comedian participated in the Tom Brady roast on Netflix earlier this year.

“Hosting the Golden Globes is scary!” she told the Golden Globes website ahead of the ceremony. “It’s a well-lit room, which is not conducive to comedy; there are a lot of people I admire, which also is not conducive to comedy. It’s live, so you can’t do retakes. The level of difficulty is through the roof. And that’s thrilling to me.”

Glaser also revealed that she reached out to past five-time host Ricky Gervais for advice.

“He said ‘Be yourself. Do what you did at the roast and employ whatever method you used there. And don’t forget that you’re not one of them. You’re not a movie star, you’re not a TV star. You’re at the Globes, you’re the host and you’re a comedian and that’s your job.’ That was really refreshing to hear,” she said.
