An upstate New York man is facing multiple charges for allegedly driving a “large excavator” into a home with a 62-year-old woman and an 11-year-old boy inside, New York State Police said Tuesday.
Matthew P. Partridge, 37, of Nunda, was arrested Monday on charges of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child after authorities responded to a report of a domestic dispute at a home in the town of Groveland, about 45 miles south of Rochester.
State troopers and investigators from the NYSP Geneseo barracks responded to a residence on Upper Bean Hill Road around 3:30 p.m. Monday and determined that Partridge was operating an excavator belonging to the family business when he drove toward the home occupied by the woman and “her 11-year-old male relative,” the NYSP said in a press release.
He allegedly drove through the side of the residence and destroyed part of its wrap-around porch, police said, noting that his actions caused “extensive damage” to the home.
He’s also accused of continuing to damage the property and threatening the woman as she fled, officials said.
After fleeing the home, the woman contacted another family member asking for help. That relative, described as a 64-year-old man who also lived at the home, arrived a short time later in his Chevrolet truck — which was then struck several times with the excavator, police said.
Partridge and the man also got into a “brief physical altercation” before the suspect managed to flee the scene, according to state troopers.
The 37-year-old suspect was later located at his mother’s home and ultimately taken into custody by Livingston County sheriff’s deputies.
Partridge was arraigned in Livingston County CAP Court and has since been released, police said.
Officials did not provide details on Partridge’s relationship to the residents nor how the female victim is related to the boy.
