Temperatures in New York City reached new lows for the 2025-26 winter season on Tuesday, with hefty winds pushing the wind chill into the single digits.
The high temperature in Central Park was only 23 degrees on Tuesday, with a 10-degree wind chill. Meanwhile, the overnight lows were expected to drop to 18 degrees with a 9-degree wind chill, according to the National Weather Service.
“These will be dangerous life-threatening conditions for anyone without proper winter clothing and gear outdoors or reliable heat indoors,” the city’s emergency management department wrote on social meda. “Limit time outdoors. Cover all exposed skin. Wear layers, a hat, and gloves. Check on neighbors who may be vulnerable.”
Coastal areas like Montauk will see slightly warmer temperatures, but it will be even colder in the Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey. In White Plains, the overnight low will dip to 11 degrees.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to bring some relief from the cold, with highs reaching 35 degrees in Central Park on Wednesday night and 41 degrees on Thursday afternoon. Additionally, no rain or snow is expected throughout the week.
However, temperatures will plummet as the weekend approaches, according to meteorologists. While holding steady in the high 20s and low 30s through Friday afternoon, temperatures will drop overnight into Saturday, with a predicted low of 12 degrees and a wind chill of 1 degree in Manhattan.
The predicted high on Saturday is 16 degrees, and Sunday is hardly better with an expected high of 19 degrees. Wind chills will remain between 0 and 10 degrees for the entire weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
