A Brooklyn man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for selling fentanyl-laced heroin and crack cocaine to undercover officers on Long Island, prosecutors said Monday.
Devon Brown, 35, agreed to meet someone in the Village of Floral Park early last year for what he thought would be a drug deal.
The prospective buyer — an undercover detective from the Nassau County Police Department’s Narcotics and Vice Squad — texted Brown to request cocaine and heroin.
His phone number had been identified in the phone of a fatal overdose victim during a previous investigation, prosecutors said.
The two agreed to meet in Floral Park, in western Nassau County, on Feb. 27, 2024, when Brown sold the undercover detective the drugs “without hesitation,” Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly said.
After the drug deal was complete, several NCPD detectives identified themselves and attempted to arrest Brown, officials said.
Brown tried to flee, knocking one detective to the ground as he ran, but was eventually taken into custody by NCPD detectives.
During his attempted escape, Brown discarded a small tin box, which police recovered and found to contain loose crack cocaine, prosecutors said.
Police also recovered “small colorful bags” containing a substance that was later tested and confirmed to contain fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid analgesic that’s 50 times more potent than heroin.
On Aug. 13, 2025, a Nassau County jury convicted Brown of criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance and related offenses.
He was sentenced Friday to 10 years in prison followed by three years of supervised release.
“Devon Brown was selling poison in our communities, and now he will serve a decade behind bars for putting lives at risk,” Donnelly said Monday when announcing his sentence. “Dealers like this fuel addiction and destroy families, and my office will continue to go after them.”
