NYC Mayor Adams says undisclosed health scare is over

Mayor Adams announced Tuesday that an undisclosed medical issue that had him withdraw from the public spotlight for most of last week was a false alarm and he’s feeling better.

“Tests were taken, and thank God, I [will] be around to harass you guys for a long time,” he told reporters in Albany after delivering budget testimony. “The doctor said that all of those tests came out negative, and I’m happy all of that anxiety that comes with it [is over.] Any of you that have ever gone for a test, the possibilities of what it could be and coming out and seeing that test come out negative, it gives you a big smile.”

Amid his absence, rumors swirled about an imminent resignation from Adams, who has pleaded not guilty in his federal corruption case and is supposed to stand trial in April.

Adams’ office first said on Jan. 26 he would cancel most of last week’s public schedule because he wasn’t feeling well. His team has declined to share specifics besides saying the mayor would undergo tests.
