A man armed with a box cutter was shot and critically wounded as he lunged at NYPD cops at a Brooklyn intersection Wednesday, officials said.
The shooting occurred at the corner of Utica Ave. and Avenue K in Flatlands about 1:50 p.m.
The officers had just finished lunch and were walking toward the corner when two men got into a fight in front of them, a police source with knowledge of the case said.
As the officers tried to intervene, one of the men pulled a box cutter and charged at the cops, the source said.
The officers pulled their weapons and fired. It wasn’t immediately clear how many shots were fired.
The man with the box cutter was critically wounded and rushed to Kings County Hospital, officials said.
The two officers were taken to another hospital to be treated for tinnitus.
