Olympic broadcaster Danika Mason has issued an apology for being tipsy on air while covering the Winter Olympics in Italy.
“Look, I totally misjudged a situation. I shouldn’t have had a drink especially in these conditions. It’s cold, we’ve got altitude, and not having had dinner probably didn’t help as well,” the Australian “Today” host explained Thursday.
She confessed during the broadcast that her indiscretion is “not the standard I set for myself,” saying she’s taking “full responsibility” for her actions, according to USA Today.
Video of Mason slurring her words and making little sense during a Wednesday broadcast, during which she inexplicably started talking about coffee prices, quickly went viral online.
“I’m not sure about the iguanas,” she added. “Where are we going with that one?”
Anchors working in the studio attempted to emphasize how broadcasting in cold weather can be difficult, but Mason’s confession seemed to indicate more that the weather had impacted her coverage.
Mason has been covering sports for the Channel 9 network since 2012 and became the “Today” show’s sports presenter in February 2025, according to Australian outlet TV Tonight. Mason said working on “Today” had been a dream of hers since childhood.
