Out-of-control driver, 15, hits elderly pedestrian on Brooklyn sidewalk

A 15-year-old driver too young to legally be driving lost control of a car in Brooklyn and struck an elderly man standing on the sidewalk Sunday morning, cops said.

The teenager was driving a 2020 Honda Accord north on Pennsylvania Ave. in East New York when he jumped the curb and hit the 71-year-old victim standing next to a utility pole near Hegeman Aves, cops said.

The youngster also slammed into the pole, toppling it. The impact nearly obliterated the front of the Accord, which has South Dakota plates.

Video obtained by News 12 Brooklyn shows the driver running off from the wrecked vehicle. Three NYPD vehicles pull up soon after the crash, as cops run after the boy.

An NYPD spokesperson couldn’t say if cops were pursuing the teen before he crashed. Cops caught up with the teen and took him into custody.

Medics took the pedestrian to Brookdale University Hospital in stable condition.

The car was stolen or taken without permission, cops said. State law prohibits anyone younger than 16 from taking the wheel.
