Dozens of “big-name artists and bands” are vying for one of the limited spots in the upcoming FireAid benefit concert for victims of the deadly wildfires that have ravaged Los Angeles over the past week.
Sources told TMZ that the interest of 50-plus musicians has benefit organizers looking to add more than the current 24 slots to the FireAid concert, which was announced earlier this week.
While it’s so far unclear who those marquee names are, the outlet confirmed that they’ll be L.A.-based and neither Taylor Swift nor Beyoncé will take part in the Jan. 30 event.
Beyoncé, who delayed her previously teased major announcement amid the “devastation,” donated $2.5 million to recovery efforts.
The Eagles have also donated $2.5 million to the concert, according to TMZ, though it’s unclear if the “Hotel California” crooners will perform at the event.
The concert will take place at the Intuit Dome, which sits just 17 miles southwest of L.A.’s starry Pacific Palisades neighborhood and 26 miles southeast of Altadena, both of which were decimated in the wildfires.
At present,over 23,000 acres have burned in the Palisades blaze, which is currently 19% contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Eaton Fire, affecting Altadena and Pasadena, has ravaged 14,000 acres and is 45% contained.
At least 25 people have so far been killed and at least 16 are missing in the wildfires, which have destroyed over 12,300 structures. Along with the damage from the Hurst Fire, the three blazes have burned more square mileage than that of Paris, CNN reports.
The Palisades and Eaton fires are, respectively, the most destructive and second-most destructive in the history of Southern California.
