Ozark Trail water bottles recalled after 2 customers blinded

Walmart is recalling about 850,000 stainless steel water bottles due to a hazardous lid that has blinded two customers.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Thursday that nearly 850,000 Ozark Trail water bottles have been recalled by the retail giant because of a hazardous lid that can eject forcefully, causing serious injuries.

The CPSC has received three reports of customers being hit in the face by the lids, with two people suffering permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.

“The lid can forcefully eject, posing serious impact and laceration hazards, when a consumer attempts to open the capped bottles after food, carbonated beverages or perishable beverages, such as juice or milk, are stored inside over time,” the recall announcement stated.

Manufactured in China, the 64-ounce stainless steel portable containers are sold in Walmart stores and nationwide for about $15.

The stainless-steel bottles are silver with a black one-piece screwcap lid and measure 4.41 inches by 4.41inches by 11.5 inches. An Ozark Trail logo embedded on the side of the bottle.

Walmart has sold the bottles nationwide since 2017.

The model number 83-662 appears on the packaging.

The CPSC urged customers to stop using the bottles immediately, and return them to the nearest Walmart to receive a full refund.
