Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro revealed President Trump has not reached out in the week since his official residence was the target of an arson attack.
Shapiro did not offer further comment on the matter, but noted other officials from the administration had gotten in contact with him. His comment came during an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos, filmed inside the charred governor’s mansion in Harrisburg.
The mansion was set ablaze Sunday, hours after the governor and his family enjoyed a Seder for the first night of Passover.
“Everybody was just enjoying one another and spending time celebrating not just the holiday but each other and enjoying each other’s company,” Shapiro recalled, adding that they went to bed shortly after midnight.
An hour later, Shapiro’s family were awakened by state troopers pounding on their doors, and everyone inside was safely evacuated.
“I remember it being a cold and kind of misty night. We were all a little chilly. Everybody was in their pajamas,” he recalled. “We just kind of huddled up and just tried to keep the kids calm and keep everybody calm.”
Police said the suspect, Cody Balmer, walked an hour from his home to the governor’s residence, scaled a nearly 7-foot iron security fence and evaded security before he forcibly entered the mansion.
He then used beer bottles filled with gasoline to make Molotov cocktails in the attack, allegedly carried out because of Balmer’s frustrations with Shapiro’s stance on the war in Gaza.
Balmer turned himself into authorities and is facing charges including attempted homicide, terrorism, aggravated arson, aggravated assault and other offenses.
