A Pennsylvania man has been hit with federal charges after plotting to kill President Trump, Elon Musk and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, the Department of Justice announced Friday.
Shawn Monper, 32, is accused of making multiple threats against the president and his allies between Jan. 15 and April 5.
According to a criminal complaint, the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section was alerted on Tuesday to a YouTube user calling himself “Mr Satan” who was posting threats from an address linked to Monper’s residence.
“I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office,” he allegedly commented in February using that moniker.
Investigators learned the suspect had indeed obtained firearm permits after the 47th president was inaugurated in January.
Monper also allegedly boasted he’d been purchasing one gun per month since Trump was elected in November, along with body armor and ammunition. He said a “mass shooting” was a part of his plan.
“We just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way,” he reportedly wrote on Feb. 17. Two weeks later, he said he intended to “assassinate” Trump himself.
Subsequent threats included “terrorist” ICE agents on his list targets.
“If I see an armed ICE agent, I will consider it a domestic terrorist, and an active shooter and open fire on them,” he wrote, according to the feds.
Monper is a resident of Butler, Pa., the same city where a gunman narrowly missed killing Trump during a campaign rally last July.
Attorney General Pam Bondi indicated that Monper should not expect leniency.
“Rest assured that whenever and wherever threats of assassination or mass violence occur, this Department of Justice will find, arrest and prosecute the suspect to the fullest extent of the law and seek the maximum appropriate punishment,” she said in Friday’s statement.
Monper was arrested on Wednesday and is currently detained pending preliminary and detention hearings scheduled for Monday.
