Attorney General Pam Bondi touted her team’s work to investigate key figures in the Obama and Biden administrations, accused of lawfare against conservatives.
The head of the Justice Department, who is currently on the mend from eye surgery, stressed that federal prosecutors are currently probing instances of weaponization going back to Russiagate.
“At my direction, our U.S. Attorneys and federal agents are actively investigating instances of government weaponization nationwide,” Bondi told Just the News in a written interview published Sunday.
“This is a ten-year stain on the country committed by high-ranking officials against the American people.”
Last week, Bondi took some heat from MAGA influencers who raised concerns that she wasn’t doing enough to prosecute members of the since-defunct House Select Jan. 6 Committee.
It’s not entirely clear what crimes the influencers believe lawmakers on the Jan. 6 Committee committed, but the backlash against Bondi seemingly provoked Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon to blast them as “hoes.”
Bondi has faced pressure from both Trump and the base of the Republican Party to be more aggressive in combating former officials who targeted the president and other conservatives.
Earlier this month, Turning Point USA’s America Fest straw poll revealed that she scored the highest level of disapproval among Trump’s cabinet officials.
The attorney general suggested that the evidence of weaponization she’s seen thus far backs a conspiracy case.
“This evidence illustrates that the FBI shielded political figures like Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton while pursuing conservatives for their beliefs, using legal process and operations that were excessive, instead of protecting Americans from public safety threats,” Bondi argued to the outlet.
“They went so far as to serve search warrants that their own Department and law enforcement officials believed were excessive.”
Liberal critics have accused the Trump administration of using weaponization accusations as a pretense to seek retribution against alumni of the Obama and Biden administrations.
Trump has tapped Ed Martin, his pardon attorney, to lead a weaponization working group aimed at hitting back at prior government officials who went after Trump and other conservatives.
Bondi stressed that the Trump administration is “fixing the damage and delivering justice” and crowed about how her team has furnished “an unprecedented number of documents to Congress about government weaponization.”
Under Bondi’s watch, federal prosecutors have pursued indictments against former FBI Director James Comey as well as New York Attorney General Letitia James (D) and have reportedly pursued a grand jury probe of former CIA Director John Brennan, among others.
The cases against James and Comey have since been thrown out of court, though the DOJ has attempted to revive them.
“This Department of Justice takes government weaponization seriously. That means protecting civil liberties, preventing election interference, and holding bad actors accountable,” Bondi stressed.
“No one is above the law, even if they think they are.”
