Passenger charged in Chinatown hit and run that killed two, NYPD says


The passenger riding in the stolen car that jumped a curb in Chinatown and killed two people has been criminally charged, police said Monday.

Kennedy Lecraft, 22, is charged with possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of a weapon.

The driver, a 23-year-old woman, has been hospitalized since the Saturday morning crash and has not yet been charged, police said.

The driver was freed without bail after a hit-and-run crash in April injured a woman stepping out of an Uber in Brooklyn. She went on to speed off the Manhattan Bridge and crash at Bowery and Canal St. about 7:30 a.m. Saturday, according to cops.

One victim, May Kwok, 63, was sitting on a bench when she was struck. The other victim, Kevin Cruickshank, 55, was on his bike when he was plowed into.

“Kevin had been a huge supporter of Transportation Alternatives for years,” a family spokeswoman said. “He was registered for the TA Century ride in September — his favorite bike ride — and that’s why he was going out for a long four-hour bike ride to Coney Island Saturday morning.”

The driver and Lecraft ran from the scene but were pointed out by witnesses and grabbed by officers, police said. Lecraft’s arraignment was pending in Manhattan Criminal Court Monday.
