A pedestrian wandering around a Connecticut expressway “for unknown reasons” was fatally hit by four vehicles during Wednesday morning rush hour, state police said Thursday.
The unidentified victim was walking in the right lane of Interstate 95 North, just before exit 6 in Stamford, when they were first hit shortly before 6:30 a.m.
The impact tossed the pedestrian to the left side of the highway, according to Connecticut State Police. The vehicle that hit the victim fled the scene, they said.
“The pedestrian was then struck by two other evading vehicles,” cops reported. “[A fourth vehicle] was merging from the center lane into the left lane and was unable to avoid striking the pedestrian.”
The fourth driver stopped when their vehicle became disabled and remained on the scene.
Police didn’t immediately have any information on the first three drivers accused of hitting the victim. Authorities also said Thursday they’d so far been unable to identify the pedestrian and couldn’t notify their next of kin.
There was no new information as of Friday afternoon, Connecticut State Police told the Daily News.
The investigation is ongoing and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
A similar scene unfolded on Long Island Wednesday morning when a 43-year-old pedestrian was fatally struck by three cars on a Long Island Expressway service road in Nassau County. All three motorists stopped in that incident.
