Pennsylvania man shot in lower back when dog jumps on bed

A Pennsylvania man was rushed into emergency surgery after his dog jumped on his bed, causing his shotgun to go off and hit him in the lower back.

The shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. Tuesday in the town of Shillington in Berks County, according to CBS affiliate WHP.

Shillington police responding to the call said they were initially unsure who fired the shot until they were reportedly told en route that a dog jumped on the bed of his owner who’d been cleaning his gun.

The 53-year-old victim was said to have just set the shotgun down on the bed when the dog jumped up and caused it to fire. The man, who has not been identified, was rushed to Reading Hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower back. His condition was unclear as of Wednesday night.

The Shillington Police Department has not responded to a request for comment.
