The Powerball jackpot is approaching $1 billion ahead of Saturday night’s drawing after no players matched all the winning numbers on Wednesday.
The nearly historic jackpot is now estimated at a whopping $950 million — the game’s sixth-largest prize ever — following nearly three months without a winner.
Saturday will mark the 39th drawing since the Powerball jackpot was last won, according to the Multi-State Lottery Association. On May 31, a single player in California claimed a $204.5 million prize with a cash value of $91.6 million
Wednesday’s winning numbers were 9, 12, 22, 41, 61 and red Powerball 25.
Jackpot winners may choose to receive their prize as an annuity paid in 30 graduated payments over 29 years or as an immediate lump sum payment. For this weekend’s drawing, the cash prize would be an estimated $428.9 million.
“America has signaled loud and clear — it’s ready to play for a massive Powerball jackpot!” Matt Strawn, Powerball product group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO, said ahead of Wednesday’s drawing. “Powerball ticket sales have doubled in the past week, as more players join the fun with a $2 ticket, while also giving back to good causes in their communities.”
Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states and in Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET at the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.
The largest-ever Powerball jackpot, a jaw-dropping $2.04 billion prize, was won by California resident Edwin Castro in 2022.
