Powerball’s Monday $750 million prize is 10th-highest ever

Potential Powerball winnings for Monday’s drawing has soared to $750 million, the 10th largest prize in the game’s 33-year history, after no one matched all the numbers on Saturday, lottery officials said.

The next drawing is Monday night just before 11 p.m.

The last jackpot, $204.5 million, was won in California on May 31, lottery officials said in a media release, making Monday the 37th drawing since. Last week’s jackpot was already the highest of the year, hitting $600 million last Monday.

The winner or winners can choose an estimated lump sum payment of up to $338.6 million if they don’t take the $750 million annuity. The latter option offers an immediate payout, plus 29 yearly payments that increase by 5% annually. Both sums would be subject to taxes.

The largest-ever Powerball prize was $2.04 billion won by California resident Edwin Castro in 2022.

While no one snagged the grand prize in Saturday’s drawing — whose numbers were 34, 14, 11, 47, 51 and 18, plus a PowerPlay multiplier of 2x — three lucky players matched the first five numbers, one of them in Queens. Two of them won $1 million each, and a third who bought the Power Play option won $2 million.

The New York City second-prize ticket was sold at Stop & Shop in Springfield Gardens, state lottery officials said in a media release. The other $1 million ticket was bought in Maine, and the $2 million went to a South Dakota player who forked over the extra $1 for the multiplier.

Five tickets won $100,000 prizes, and 31 players won $50,000, including one in Brooklyn and one in the western New York village of Middleport, perched next to the Erie Canal about 40 miles northeast of Buffalo.
