Prince Harry had “genuine hope” that his longstanding feud with estranged father King Charles and brother Prince William would eventually die down, according to a new Vanity Fair exposé.
The Duke of Sussex, 40, reportedly confided in a guest at an event in 2023 after he was asked whether he had heard from the Windsor clan following the release of his tell-all memoir, “Spare.”
In response, Harry admitted that there’s been no contact between both camps since the protocol-shattering book’s release, according to the piece published Friday.
“That’s sort of what made me so sad,” a source told the publication. “His hope seemed very genuine. And I was just kind of like, ‘Oh, no.’”
“The power of the written word, and the power of the narrative. I don’t know if that’s something he understood while he was doing it.”
The guest, who remains anonymous, suggested that the father of two had not “absorbed the gravity” the damage the memoir had done.
“The power of the written word, and the power of the narrative…” the source told the outlet. “I don’t know if that’s something he understood while he was doing it.”
The Post has reached out to Harry’s reps for comment.
Harry has been completely estranged from his relatives ever since he and Meghan Markle quit royal life in 2020 and moved to the US.
Following the duo’s swift departure, Harry and the “Suits” alum, 43, released a series of tell-all projects about their time in the palace.
Their already damaged relationship with the royals was made worse with the release of their tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, and later their six-part Netflix documentary, “Harry & Meghan,” in which they dished on life in the palace.
But the final nail in the coffin proved to be Harry’s bombshell memoir, “Spare,” which hit shelves in January 2023.
Since settling into their new life stateside, a source told Vanity Fair that Markle has acknowledged her husband’s struggle with establishing a social circle in the US.
“I think Harry doesn’t know what he wants because he grew up in a fishbowl, and so he doesn’t know what real life really is,” a source told the outlet.
“I think he probably wants to be left alone and be able to go kiss babies every once in a while but not have to worry about money. I don’t think he wants to be famous the way Meghan wants to be famous.”
The piece suggested that the former actress does all she can to make “his life so easy.”
“I don’t want to be like, oh, it’s an Oedipus thing or whatever, but it kind of feels like she’s reparenting him in a way,” a former palace staffer told the outlet.
As for the royals, Harry’s estranged brother — who is next in line to become king — is said to be putting his foot down on several key decisions about the Firm’s long-term future.
Chief among those is declaring that the Sussexes are personae non gratae. The same goes for his scandal-scarred uncle Prince Andrew.
It’s said that the top item on William’s agenda is improving the royal family’s public image, which had taken several hits in recent years following the Duke of York’s several scandals, as well as Harry and Meghan’s swift exit from royal life.
