Prince William, Kate Middleton’s move forces families to ‘move out’ of nearby cottages

Two families have reportedly been asked to leave their Windsor cottages because Prince William and Kate Middleton, both 43, have decided to move in next door.

“They were told to move out,” a royal insider told Daily Mail this weekend. “I guess they were given somewhere else, but they were told they had to move.”

“They were not expecting it,” the source added. “Those houses are very close to the lodge, so they’re not going to want any Tom, Dick or Harry living in those houses if there are going to be royals there.”

The surprising development comes after it was revealed that William, Kate and their three children are leaving Adelaide Cottage for a $21 million, eight-bedroom property called Forest Lodge in nearby Windsor Great Park.

“The Wales family will move house later this year,” a spokesperson at Kensington Palace confirmed to Page Six on Saturday.

While the royal family moved into their current Adelaide Cottage home in Berkshire in 2022 to be close to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ school, insiders close to the couple said the pair are now looking for a “fresh start” somewhere new.

“Windsor has become their home,” a source told the Sun. “However, over the last few years, while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage, there have been some really difficult times.”

“Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind,” the insider added.

The Prince and Princess of Wales had just moved into Adelaide Cottage, which is not far from Windsor Castle, when Queen Elizabeth passed away in September 2022.

Then, last year, the royal family’s difficult times continued when King Charles and Princess Kate both revealed that they had been diagnosed with cancer.

Unlike Adelaide Cottage, William and Kate are said to see the switch to Forest Lodge as a “long-term” move into their “forever home.”

But some insiders have questioned the royal couple’s decision to make Forest Lodge their new “forever home” – particularly as William, as the heir apparent, prepares to eventually take over as monarch.

“How can this be their forever home?” one royal source asked, per Daily Mail. “It is not grand enough for a king.”

Still, shrubs and privacy screens have reportedly been added at Forest Lodge, and the property is also undergoing renovations in anticipation of the royal family’s move.

William and Kate are said to be using their own money to pay whatever it costs to renovate their new dream house, and insiders have claimed that they don’t plan to keep any live-in staff.
