Prison for NJ man who secretly recorded women in a bathroom

A 59-year-old New Jersey man who recorded five women and an underage teenager in a Garden State bathroom has been sentenced to five years behind bars.

Michael Mattina pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography and invasion of privacy in July, according to Monday’s announcement by Ocean County prosecutors. He will also have to register as a sex offender.

“An investigation conducted by the Brick Township Police Department Detective Bureau and Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Crime Unit revealed that Mattina secretly recorded six female victims, including one 16-year-old victim, utilizing a hidden camera located in the bathroom of a residence in Brick Township,” prosecutors said. “Further investigation revealed that Mattina posted the videos of the victims on two adult websites.”

Mattina was charged with multiple counts of deviancy including endangering the welfare of a child, manufacturing child pornography, and distribution of child pornography in August 2020, according to prosecutors. It remains unclear what his  relationship was to the victims, and how he entered and spied on the home where the victims were filmed.
