Fetty Wap has been freed from prison earlier than expected.
The “Trap Queen” rapper was released from prison on Thursday, Jan. 8, after serving more than three years behind bars on federal drug charges.
“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support — it truly means everything to me,” the hip hop star, 34, said in a statement shortly after his release, per Billboard.
“Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves,” he added.
The “My Way” rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, was arrested in New York City in October 2021 after an unsealed federal indictment accused the New Jersey native of transporting 100 kilograms of drugs from California to distribute in Long Island.
Although Fetty was later released from jail on a $500,000 personal recognizance bond, he violated the conditions of his release upon being arrested again for allegedly threatening to kill someone and flashing a gun during a FaceTime call in August 2022.
He ultimately pleaded guilty to one charge of conspiring to distribute at least 500 grams of cocaine later that month and was sentenced to six years in federal prison in May 2023.
“I always aimed to lead,” Fetty, who was one of five people charged in the case, told the judge during his sentencing in Long Island federal court. “I ended up hurting the community, hurting the people who look up to me, hurting my family, hurting my children, hurting myself.”
“I only wanted to do right by my family and loved ones,” the hip hop icon added. “In doing so, I never asked myself — is it all the way right?”
Fetty was serving his sentence at FCI, Sandstone – a low-security prison in Sandstone, Minnesota – and was originally scheduled to be released in December 2026.
The Bureau of Prisons, meanwhile, told TMZ that the embattled “679” rapper was transferred from FCI, Sandstone, to home confinement in Philadelphia on Wednesday.
Although the outlet reported that he is set to be fully released from oversight custody on Nov. 8, Fetty will have to follow several strict and supervised guidelines for the next 5 years.
Some of those guidelines reportedly include regular drug testing, no opening new bank accounts without prior approval from federal agents, and no consumption of alcohol or other intoxicants unless prescribed by a licensed physician.
“I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most,” the rapper ended his statement after his early release this week.
